The truth is out there. Recent events and ongoing research attest to the advancement of various human genome projects around the planet. However, in spite of the increase in successful cloning, nuclear deformation, and other enhanced abilities due to gene modification, there are those exceptional individuals who have exhibited, without the aid of catalytic experimentations, certain extraordinary skills and capabilities. Consequently, there is much reason to believe that such “mutants” are in existence and are living amongst us today. The following cases substantiate this theory:

CASE 1: Project Caninus (Caninus is Latin for dog.)

Subject: Vladimir Durov
Location: Russia
Period: 1900s (1910s)
Observer: Dr. Bechterev

Vladimir Durov, a veteran animal trainer in a Russian circus, claimed to have the ability to communicate with his canine co-performers through telepathy. As a response, the head of the Institute for the Investigation of the Brain in St. Petersburg, Professor Bechterev, proposed to conduct an experiment to test the validity of the performer’s allegation.

The professor prepared a list of tasks to be executed by one of Durov’s dogs. These tasks were to be done in a specific order, with no prior training or preparation. Durov, after reading the list of tasks, approached Pikki, his fox terrier. The trainer stared straight into the dog’s eyes and mentally commanded Pikki. Once released, the terrier immediately performed the assigned tasks.

Still in doubt, professor Bechterev repeated the experiment. A new set of tricks was prepared. However, Durov was blindfolded to eliminate the possibility of him hinting at the canine with his eyes. The results of the second experiment coincided with the first: Pikki responded to the psychic commands given by his trainer.

CASE 2: Project Medulla (The Medulla Oblongata is a part of the brain.)

Subject: Nina Kulagina
Location: Soviet Union
Period: 1900s (1960s)
Observer: Dr. Sergeyev, Dr. Terletsky, et al.

Nina Kulagina was tested by numerous, well-respected scientists, and filmed several times for displaying feats of psychokinesis – the ability to move objects using the mind. Kulagina, through intense concentration, was able to move small objects, such as wooden matches and tiny boxes, placed before her. Films smuggled out of the country and into the US are proofs of her amazing ability.

Renowned physiologist, Dr. Sergeyev placed an undeveloped photo film in a black envelope and had Kulagina stare at it. Unbelievably, the subject was able to expose the film inside.

In addition, one of Kulagina’s most amazing filmed experiments showed her slowly separating the yolk and white of an egg suspended in saline solution two meters away from her. Had the duration of the intense concentration been long enough, Kulagina would have been able to put the two back together.

On March 10, 1970, Dr. Sergeyev, along with other scientists, observed Kulagina as she manipulated the pulse of a frog’s heart also suspended in a solution. With much focus, she successfully made the heart beat faster, slower, and even stop.

Dr. Terletsky, former Chairman of Theoretical Physics at Moscow University, proclaimed: “Mrs. Kulagina displays a new and unknown form of energy.” However, constant experimentation weakened and ruined Kulagina’s health, eventually leading to her death.

CASE 3: Project Hard-drive (Hard-drive is where the computer stores its data.)

Subject: Solomon Shereshevskii
Location: Russia
Period: 1800s (1880s)
Observer: Dr. Luria

Solomon Shereshevskii could remember everything that ever happened to him. Dr. Luria, a neuropyschologist, worked with Shereshevskii in his endeavors to discover the limits of his ability. Shereshevskii could memorize long lists of numbers, formulas and nonsense texts. Years after, when asked to reproduce these bulks of data, he successfully recited all the information chronologically and, in fact, was also able to do so in reverse order effortlessly and without error.

Dr. Luria, after numerous tests, further discovered that synesthesia – the blending of the 5 sensual impressions (sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch) – catalyzed Shereshevskii’s already perfect memory. However, due to this, Shereshevskii found it very hard to recognize people he knew. His perception of detail so acute that negligible changes in a person’s skin tone or voice made it almost impossible for him to identify them.

Shereshevskii exemplified other remarkable talents. Through vivid mental imagery, he could rid himself of pain and feel hot or cold as he chooses. All that was required of him was to picture himself in the situation he desired.

In an attempt to forget some of his past, Shereshevskii tried various methods of memory deletion. However, none of them worked.

The aforementioned are but some of the superhuman potential key individuals have displayed. No doubt that there are many more of these “mutants” out there – living with and amidst us, striving for mediocrity or fame, and wanting to belong. CEREBRO.I will continue its operations in striving for and working towards the truth.

I really have to commend you for being a risk-taker: you insist and thrive in being different.
Outsmarted us all this time: you managed to follow the prescribed format while being creative.
Gossip girl last week, X-Files meets X-Men this week, I wonder what’s next? Looking forward to the next post :)

    Summary
Jezze believes there are mutants in the world. She cited three people with extraordinary abilities. Then concluded her post with an affirmation of her statement.

    Assessment
Another creative post by Jezze. It gave me that “Heroes” vibe as I was reading it. Obviously well thought of. It was engaging, the flow was good. Good job using the profile type in exemplifying. That pretty much substituted for the need of transitions. Very brief intro and conclusions, though. It was a bit “more about the mutants, less about what I think of it”. Though I guess the brevity was part of the mysterious tone the essay was trying to achieve. In that sense, it was effective.

Just curious though why all the mutants came from Russia and happened in the early 1990s. Also, we are all mutants–products of continuous mutation of organisms that eventually gave rise to human beings–from a Darwinian perspective. So were these mutants products of experiments or were they naturally supernatural then used for experiments? Just to make it clear, I’m not assessing anymore. Just asking.

See, I’m not that mean. Plus, I’m an unpaid and anonymous critic, so what do I lose with being honest? =)

The answer to your question, Wonderwoman, is at the introduction of this entry.. hahaha :)

“… there are those exceptional individuals who have exhibited, without the aid of catalytic experimentations, certain extraordinary skills and capabilities …”

In simpler terms, they were naturally supernatural. The experiments came after they had “discovered” their abilities. hahaha 8D

About the Russia thingy.. well, that got me wondering too! A lot of other “special” people I researched on were, surprisingly, also from Russia. Those who were from other places didn’t have powers as cool or as awe-inspiring.
Oh, I do remember reading about one guy who was really magnetic/electric. Lightning kept hitting him throughout his life. (Everytime that happened, his hair or eyebrows would get burned. hahaha kawawa. hahaha! :) ) Anyway, that went on for only 7 times. Shortly after the 7th strike, he killed himself. He prolly got tired of getting zapped. Poor dude. hahaha

As of the date, correction, it’s not the early 1990s but the early 1900s. hahaha 1990s would be 90 years too late. hahaha! 8) Anyway, I don’t know why this is so, either. I’m just guessing that the mutants of “our” time are probably being experimented upon as we speak – just not publicly, of course, or else we’d know about them. Projects and studies like these are usually kept “hush hush”. hahaha :)

Last thing, of course you do have a point in saying that we all are mutants of some sort. But I’m sure you do know about what kind of “mutants” I’m talking about in this entry. (Not the everybody-is-a-mutant-slash-product-of-evolution type, but the supercool-mutant-ala-xmen kind. hahaha) Scope and limitations, Wonderwoman. Don’t forget to put that into consideration. hahaha ;)
